ALL land titles must be collected within seven days after the transfer procedure is done or a fine of RM100 will be charged, said Land and Mines Department director-general Datuk Dr Abdul Halim Ain.
He was quoted by Nanyang Siang Pau as saying that the new move had been implemented in Selangor and if it helped to clear the high number of uncollected land titles in the department, it would also be introduced in other states.
“We will send e-mails, letters or call them to ask them to collect the land titles,” he said.
National Housebuyers Association secretary-general Chang Kim Loong suggested that an additional RM100 be charged every 14 days if the land title is not collected.
Pemudah focus group on registering property chairman Datuk Dr Andy Seo Kian Haw, however, is worried that legal firms or runners would transfer the additional cost to land owners.
“Under the Government Transformation Plan, the transfer of land titles should take only one day compared to 142 days previously.
“We now need the cooperation of the land owners to help us clear the uncollected land titles,” he said.
It was learnt that 15,000 land titles have yet to be collected from the Selangor Land and Mines Department.
Sin Chew Daily reported that employers in the country would not consider extending the current 60-day maternity leave to 90 days.
The daily quoted Malaysian Employers’ Federation executive director Shamsuddin Bardan as saying that employers would have to bear an additional cost of RM1.1bil if maternity leave was extended to 90 days.
“Our country is not developed yet and it is inappropriate for us to provide the same benefits as other countries.
“But if we become a developed nation by 2020, we can discuss the issue then,” he said.
