Deutsche Bank ranks Malaysia as Asia 's second

Deutsche Bank ranked Malaysia second, after India , as Asia's "growth stars" for the 2006-2020 period with China in third position.

The ranking was based on four drivers - population growth, investment activity, improvement of human capital and openness to trade.

Deutsche Bank Chief Economist, Professor Norbert Walter, speaking at a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur , yesterday, said the bank is confident of Malaysia 's long-term growth, forecasting a 6% growth for the country next year.

Malaysia 's high ranking was attributed to several aspects about the economy - a large number of young people, critical to create a knowledge-based society; the emphasis placed on human capital development through research and education including life-long learning, as well as the country's high investment profile. This scenario is by the politcal stability in the country, which would spur further growth.
