Technical Working Group on Supply Chain - Aerospace (TWGSCA)

About

The Government of Malaysia has identified the aerospace industry as a strategic industry which has a wide potential in the country's industrialisation and technological development programmes. The aerospace industry generates an annual revenue of RM 12.7 billion and employs more than 21,000 skilled workers.

The Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 has set a vision for Malaysia to be the no. 1 aerospace nation in South East Asia (SEA) and as an integral part of the global market by the year 2030 with an annual revenue of RM55.2 billion and create more than 32,000 high income jobs.

The Technical Working Group on Supply Chain Aerospace (TWGSCA) will addresses policy and regulatory issues that are faced by the Malaysian aerospace industry supply chain consisting of engineering and design services, aero-manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul services (MRO), system integration and education & training.

Aerospace Focus Area

  • Engineering & Design

Aerospace engineering, also called aeronautical engineering is a field of engineering concerned with the design, development, construction, testing, and operation of vehicles operating in the Earth's atmosphere or in outer space.

  • Aero-Manufacturing

Aero-manufacturing sub-sector involved in the various aspects of designing, building, testing, selling, and maintaining aircraft, aircraft parts, missiles, rockets, or spacecraft.

Products or services related to aero-manufacturing are aero structures, avionics equipment, engines and airframe equipment.

  • MRO

MRO stands for maintenance, repair and overhaul. Aviation MRO refers to the specific repair, service or inspection of an aircraft. The practice encompasses that of all maintenance activities done to ensure the safety and airworthiness of an air transport vehicle.

Products under MRO are related to aircraft, ground systems, simulators and ground set equipment.

  • Systems Integration

The provision of integrated modeling, simulation and optimization tools to effectively support all stages of aircraft design remains a critical challenge in the aerospace industry. Iterations are still necessary to successfully design, develop, integrate, validate and verify the components and subsystems of modern aircraft.

Product or services related to system integration are ground systems, simulators, spacecraft, UAV, aircraft avionics, missiles and rockets.

  • Education & Training

Education and Training (E&T) is the crosscutting segment that supports the entire aerospace industry dealing with talent development. Currently in South East Asia, Malaysia leads in terms of producing the number of skilled workforce with competent expertise in different levels of technical proficiency for the aerospace industry. This commensurate with the number of training providers that Malaysia has compared to the rest in the region. Capacity-wise, Malaysia as in total 53 education and training providers in aerospace related programmes made up of 7 higher learning institutions, 15 technical training academies, and 11 DCA Part-145 approved training organizations (ATO).
